TRINITY SUNDAY -- JUNE 15, 2014
HIGHLANDS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
PRELUDE Take Time to Be Holy arr. Lloyd Larson
INVOCATION (Liturgists words; Congregation’s words)
It is a new day;
let us lift up our hearts to this new day!
The light of divinity is shining through the universe;
its blesses us with life and love.
Let us gather to share in this new life,
and let us gather to help with its care.
A holy voice is calling from within every soul;
let us come to answer Yes.
*HYMN 464 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
SCRIPTURE 2 Corinthians 13:11-13
The word of God;
Thanks be to God.
CONTEMPLATION Prelude in C minor, BWV 934 J.S. Bach
PRAYERS OF HOPE with The Lord’s Prayer
Such dreams and hopes we could have, dear friends,
if we would only dream and hope.
Men: In days that move from light to dark to light,
in lives that rise and fall and rise again,
Women: may we wake to cherish every breath, to glory in the stars,
to see the sacred depths in all.
All: May we hear all the songs of God
that lead us into life.
And so we pray our greatest hopes:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen
* Asterisk indicates an opportunity to stand if you would.
Where you fracture relationship, I will bleed,
but I will bless and I will shine through.
Where you repent and forgive together,
you will heal and your health will renew, and I am there.
PRAYERS OF CARING for those in need of our prayers and caring
*HYMN Spirit of the Living God
SCRIPTURE John 16:12-15
The word of God;
Thanks be to God.
SERMON SERMON FOR TRINITY SUNDAY Josh Braley
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH drawn from the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds
Gracious God, full of power, full of love, full of blessing, you share your all with us.
Let our eyes see; let our ears hear;
let our minds understand; let our hearts thank.
And so we profess our faith in ancient words that point us to you:
Women: Gracious God, our faith is in you, Source of all, All in all,
creator of heaven and earth, power for heaven on earth.
Men: And we believe in your holy child, one with you and one with us,
conceived by your Spirit in grace and truth,
born of a maiden to bring good news, crucified, buried, and raised to you
to come in glory for the living and the dead.
All: And we believe in your Spirit
at work in the world, alive in the Church, empowering your saints,
forgiving our sins, resurrecting us from death,
and bringing us to life in the world to come. Amen.
OFFERING Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee arr. Jerry Nelson
PRAYER OF THANKS
Llight upon light, leaf upon leaf, love upon love, we are given life.
Grace upon grace, our lives are blest;
So let us give in thanks:
to the Spirit of Love, our hearts;
to the Spirit of Truth, our minds;
to the Spirit of Care, our lives,
to the Spirit of Joy, our souls.
